The new Flybuys program is about to launch. One item which came up in coversation was the new My5 promotion which isn't quite clear, but will become clearer in time.
According to the Flybuys site there will be over 800 product groups people can select from and register 5 product groups. Then if they buy from that group they can get a 10℅ discount on those items subject to certain restrictions.
The question which came up today was, can the product groups be changed? According to the Flybuys site, once the groups are selected they are locked in.
This means people will need to review their past purchases if they are to maximise the value of this new Flybuys program. It will be interesting to see the strategies people come up with.
When the Flybuys system changed from one point for $1 spent to two points for $5 spent a few years ago, it meant the value of the Flybuys program dropped from around one cent per dollar spent to 0.4 cents per dollar spent, making the value of the program generally much less. The new Flybuys program again returns the one point for $1 spent, making the program better.
When considering reward schemes it is a good idea to review the scheme, but because of the very low value of reward schemes, it is not wise to buy items just for the rewards. Buy items as you normally would and consider the reward scheme a bonus.

A number of people I've observed or heard of, have been confused by the My5 system.
ReplyDelete1. A person went through selecting their My5 items. On checking the person had not selected any items. After selecting the five items you need to confirm and thus lock in the selected items/groups. Remember once the items are confirmed they can't be changed.
2. A person went to a cashier in Coles and asked her if the items she had could be her five items. She wasn't aware she needed to go to the Flybuys site and then log on to her account and set up her five items/groups.
3. A person called me today as they weren't able to find the My5 section on the Flybuys site. They were able to log on but couldn't find the section. I decided to check the site again and sure enough it really isn't obvious how to get to the My5 section of the Flybuys site. I would have thought My5 would be an option in the menus and from what I can see, it isn't.
You can get to the My5 section of the site as follows:
Go to www.flybuys.com.au
Log on to your account
Scroll down and look for the red writing on the white background which reads "go to my5".
Click on "go to my5". (This is a button but doesn't look like a button which can be missed by people.)
Actually you can press on most areas of this graphic, but if you click on the underlined link "my5 Terms & Exclusions" you'll see a different screen. On this screen scroll down to the red writing on the white background which reads "View or select my5".
You should then see a number of ways to select an item/group. As you select an item/group the item/group will appear in the five spots for your selections. Once you've made your five selections you need to click on confirm.
I hope this helps others

You should also be aware that if you select a my5 item, and yet it is not stocked in any of your 3 local Coles stores (and none of them are small stores) then it is tough - even when you are told by the manager of your local store that the product is discontinued and so you won't be able to get it, What a waste of time - all they want is your details for research purposes

I noticed in the terms and conditions that items can be removed and you can't select another item in its place. Whilst Flybuys can be time consuming and a little frustrating at times, it is important to keep things in perspective. The savings are quite small. Don't let it get to you and have a some fun.
